Somfy Remote Not Working? Complete Blind Remote Troubleshooting Guide
A Somfy blind that does not respond is not automatically a failed motor. The fault is often the remote battery, selected channel, motor power, control protocol or programming state.
Start with the complete Somfy Remote Controls Guide if you have not confirmed the motor protocol, remote family or programming state.
Check the simple causes before resetting anything. A factory reset can remove remotes, groups, favourite positions and limits.
Start with these checks
Fit the correct fresh battery and confirm polarity.
Check whether the remote indicator lights when a button is pressed.
Select the channel previously used for that blind.
Charge a rechargeable motor with the correct Somfy charger.
For a 240V motor, check the circuit and isolator without opening electrical connections.
Test another working remote or TaHoma control if available.
Confirm that the motor and handset are both RTS or both compatible Zigbee.

Troubleshooting by symptom
Symptom | Most likely checks |
No light on the remote | Battery, polarity, contacts or failed handset |
Remote lights; blind is silent | Wrong channel, motor power, protocol or lost pairing |
Another remote works | Original handset battery, channel or pairing |
Only one channel fails | Channel selection or motor assignment |
Blind jogs but will not run | Commissioning or limits incomplete |
Blind stops early | Charge, obstruction, fabric tracking, load or limits |
Several blinds move unexpectedly | Group-channel programming |
TaHoma works but handset does not | Handset battery, channel or pairing |
1. Check the remote battery
Replace the battery even if the indicator glows weakly. Clean, undamaged contacts and correct battery polarity matter. If there is still no indicator, test another compatible handset before blaming the motor.
2. Check the selected channel
On multi-channel remotes, cycle through the channels and test the one previously assigned to the blind. Remember that a channel can be an individual motor or a group.
3. Check motor power
Rechargeable motors may stop responding when the battery is depleted. Use the correct charger for the exact motor generation. For 240V motors, a licensed electrician is required for electrical diagnosis or connection work.
4. Confirm RTS or Zigbee
An RTS remote cannot directly control a Zigbee motor. If you are replacing a lost handset, use labels and product records rather than guessing from appearance.
Use the RTS vs Zigbee compatibility guide.
5. Use another working control
If another remote or TaHoma still controls the blind, the motor has power and can operate. Add or replace the faulty RTS handset through a working remote instead of resetting the motor.
When not to reset
When another control still works.
When several motors share one power circuit.
When you do not know the motor model.
When the blind has working limits and groups you want to preserve.
When the issue could be a flat battery, wrong channel or wrong protocol.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the remote light up but the blind not move?
The remote has battery power, but the motor may have no power, be on another channel, use another protocol or no longer have that handset recorded.
How do I know if the motor battery is flat?
Charge it with the correct charger for the recommended period and retest. Battery feedback is available only in supported systems.
Can a locked remote damage a Somfy motor?
No. A handset setting or programming state does not physically damage the motor.
Why does only one blind in a group fail?
Check that motor’s power and whether it remains assigned to the group channel.
Should I buy a new motor?
Not until battery, power, channel, compatibility and another control have been tested.
What information should I send MMB?
Send the motor label, remote front and rear, battery type, charger used, symptoms, and whether any other control or TaHoma still operates the blind.
