How to Add or Copy a Somfy RTS Remote Without Losing the Existing One
If one Somfy RTS remote already operates the blind, you can normally add another compatible RTS handset without deleting the original remote, limits or favourite position.
Start with the complete Somfy Remote Controls Guide if you have not confirmed the motor protocol, remote family or programming state.
Use the working remote to open the motor’s programming memory. Do not factory-reset the motor just to add a handset.
Before you start
Confirm both controls use Somfy RTS.
Install a fresh battery in the new remote.
Identify the recessed PROG button on both handsets.
Select the correct channel on the existing remote.
Select the intended destination channel on the new remote.
Use an individual channel if only one blind should be copied.

Standard add-a-remote sequence
Select the channel that operates the intended blind on the existing remote.
Hold the existing remote’s rear PROG button until the blind jogs, then release.
Select the desired channel on the new remote.
Briefly press the new remote’s PROG button.
A second jog confirms that the motor has recorded the new remote.
Test UP, MY/STOP and DOWN on the new remote.
This records the motor on the selected new channel. It does not automatically copy the old handset’s labels, timer schedules or every other channel.
Why several blinds may move
If the original channel controls a group, all motors in that group may enter programming mode. Pressing PROG on the new remote can then add the whole group to the selected new channel.
Use an individual channel when adding one blind.
If no individual channel exists, isolate and recover the motor only with the correct model-specific procedure.
Do not repeatedly press PROG trying to separate a group.
Write down the existing channel map before changing a larger installation.
Adding a different channel count
You can add a compatible Situo 1, 2 or 5 RTS control to a motor regardless of the old handset’s channel count. What matters is that you select the correct source channel and destination channel.

If the original remote is lost
Without a working remote, recovery depends on the exact motor, its power type and whether other motors share the circuit. Avoid generic power-cycle instructions until the installation is identified; the wrong sequence can affect several blinds.
Start with the Somfy remote troubleshooting guide and contact MMB with motor and remote photos if recovery is still required.
Frequently asked questions
Will adding a new remote delete the old one?
No. The normal add-a-remote sequence retains the existing remote. The motor jog confirms each programming step.
Can I copy one channel from a five-channel remote?
Yes, if that source channel controls only the motor or group you want to add.
Why did the new remote receive a whole group?
The source channel was a group channel, so every motor in it entered programming mode.
Can I add a Telis remote from a Situo remote?
Yes, where both are compatible RTS controls. Select the correct source and destination channels.
Can I copy RTS programming to a Zigbee control?
No. RTS and Zigbee use different pairing systems.
What if the motor jogs twice but the new remote does not work?
Check the selected new channel, battery, protocol and whether the brief PROG press was made on the intended handset.
