Can Motorised Blinds Work with Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home and SmartThings?

Motorised blinds can work with Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home and SmartThings, but only when the motor, brand hub and chosen platform are compatible. A voice assistant does not normally communicate directly with the blind motor.

For Motorise My Blinds customers, Automate ARC typically connects through Pulse Pro, while compatible Somfy RTS and Zigbee products connect through TaHoma switch.

The control path

A normal connected setup has three parts: the blind motor communicates with its compatible brand hub; the hub communicates with its manufacturer app; and the hub or cloud integration connects the blinds to the selected smart-home platform.

If the motor cannot communicate with the brand hub, changing the Alexa, Google or Apple settings will not solve the problem.

Automate Pulse Pro compatibility

The current Automate Pulse Pro is Matter compatible. With a compatible Matter controller, it can connect Automate ARC blinds to Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings.

  • Set up Pulse Pro and all ARC shades in the Automate Shades app first.

  • Finish the motor limits with a remote before adding the hub.

  • Add Pulse Pro as a Matter device using the QR code on the hub.

  • Place each discovered shade in the correct room in the selected platform.

  • Recreate required platform groups or routines because Automate app rooms and scenes may not transfer automatically.

Somfy TaHoma compatibility

TaHoma supports compatible Somfy RTS and Zigbee equipment in its own app. Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa can control compatible TaHoma products. SmartThings support is available for compatible integrations.

Apple Home requires more care. Somfy Australia states that Apple Home connectivity through TaHoma is for selected compatible Zigbee products. Somfy RTS blinds should not be assumed to work in Apple Home simply because they appear in the TaHoma app.

Platform-by-platform

Amazon Alexa

Alexa can control compatible Pulse Pro shades through Matter and compatible TaHoma equipment through Somfy’s supported integration. Use clear device names and build Alexa groups or routines for room-level commands.

Google Home

Google Home can control compatible Pulse Pro shades through Matter and compatible Somfy devices through TaHoma. Assign the blinds to rooms so natural commands target the correct area.

Apple Home and Siri

Pulse Pro can be added to Apple Home using its Matter or HomeKit setup code and a compatible Apple home controller. TaHoma exposure is limited to selected compatible Somfy Zigbee products, not the full RTS range.

Samsung SmartThings

Pulse Pro can join a compatible SmartThings Matter setup. TaHoma also has supported SmartThings integration for compatible products. Confirm the required hub or Matter controller before promising a particular routine.

Useful voice commands

  • Open the living room blinds.

  • Close the main bedroom blind.

  • Set the western blinds to 50 percent.

  • Open all supported blinds.

  • Run the Good Morning routine.

Percentage direction can be interpreted differently between systems. Test whether zero percent represents open or closed in the chosen app before building routines.

Why shades sometimes appear twice

Duplicate devices usually occur when the same hub is linked through more than one integration path or after an old connection remains in the platform. Remove the obsolete path, refresh devices and keep one clear naming system.

Why scenes do not always transfer

A brand app scene is not automatically the same object as a scene in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings. Pulse Pro Matter does not automatically copy every room or scene into the third-party platform. Create the required routines again in that platform.

Do you need a smart speaker?

For voice control, you need a compatible platform controller or device. Matter onboarding for Pulse Pro requires a Matter-compatible smart speaker or hub from the chosen ecosystem. Phone-only control requirements vary by platform, especially for remote access and automation.

What if the home has Automate and Somfy blinds?

Use Pulse Pro for Automate ARC and TaHoma for compatible Somfy products. Where both integrations are supported, the higher-level platform can provide shared voice commands or routines. The two motor brands still require their own compatible hubs.

Buying advice

Choose the motor and brand hub first. Then check the exact platform feature you care about—individual control, percentage positioning, routines, remote access or feedback. Do not choose a motor solely because a generic product page says it works with voice control.
