The current Automate ZERO Q roller blind motors are straightforward to charge once you know the connection: they are 5V motors using Micro-B. That applies to the current Q 0.7Nm, Q 1.1Nm and Q 2.0Nm models.

Quick answer: connect a suitable 5V Micro-B charging lead to the motor and allow at least eight hours for a full charge. Automate says the motor-head light turns solid green when the 5V motor is fully charged.

Which ZERO Motors Use 5V Micro-B?

Automate’s current Q motor information lists the ZERO Q 0.7Nm, 1.1Nm and 2.0Nm motors for use with a USB Charger Micro B. Older Automate motors and outdoor products can use different charging systems, so identify the motor first if it is not one of these current ZERO Q models.

What You Need to Charge a ZERO Motor

The easiest complete setup is the genuine Automate 5V Wall Charger Kit. It combines a 2A USB power supply with a long Micro-B charging lead. If you already have the correct 5V power supply, the 4 metre USB-A to Micro-B lead is available separately.

How Long Should an Automate ZERO Motor Charge?

Automate’s support guidance for 5V ZERO motors says to keep the motor plugged in for at least eight hours to fully charge it. Once fully charged, the indicator on the motor head turns solid green. Use that manufacturer guidance rather than assuming a higher-output phone charger will dramatically shorten the process.

Can I Use the Automate Magnetic Charger Instead?

Automate magnetic charging cable with Micro-B connector for compatible ZERO motors

Yes, for compatible Micro-B ZERO motors the magnetic system is designed as a simpler connection method. The small connector remains fitted to the motor and the cable snaps on magnetically when you need to charge. Automate rates the magnetic charger at 5V with a maximum 2A at the round connector, so it is part of the same 5V charging ecosystem rather than a lower-power trickle charger.

The biggest advantage appears when you have several blinds: one magnetic cable can service multiple motors if each motor has its own connector. Read A Better Way to Charge Your Blinds: The Automate Magnetic Charger

Important Magnetic-Charger Check: Motor Head Orientation

Before fitting the magnetic connector, look at the direction the charging port faces. The port should face directly down so the hanging cable does not pull sideways against the magnetic connection. Repositioning a motor head may mean checking motor direction and resetting the blind’s upper and lower limits afterwards.

What If the Charging Port Is Hard to Reach?

A 4 metre charging cable gives basic reach. The 210mm Micro-B extender can leave a short accessible tail at the motor. The magnetic system reduces fiddling with the Micro-B port. A compatible 5V solar panel can reduce how often you need to manually connect a charger at all. Which option is best depends on how the blind is installed.

Can I Solar-Charge a ZERO Motor?

Compatible current 5V systems can use the Automate Solar Panel for 5V Motors. That panel is not the same product as the Outdoor Solar Panel used with the Li-ion FT outdoor motor. If you are replacing an older solar panel, check the current product code and connection rather than relying on an old Solar Panel V2 description.

ZERO Motor Still Not Responding After Charging?

A heavily discharged motor can look completely dead. First confirm the correct 5V charging setup and give it the full manufacturer-recommended charge time. If the motor still does not respond, check the indicator behaviour, battery warning and programming before assuming the motor has failed.

The Simple ZERO Charging Setup We Recommend

For one easily accessible ZERO blind, the standard 5V wall charger and Micro-B cable are simple. For several compatible ZERO blinds — especially high or awkward ones — the magnetic system is worth considering because the connector can remain in each motor and the same cable can be shared between them.
