A Better Way to Charge Your Blinds: The Automate Magnetic Charger

Rechargeable motorised blinds are convenient because they avoid the need for permanent power at every window, but every battery motor eventually needs charging. Depending on the height and position of the blind, reaching the charging port can be awkward. The Automate Magnetic Charging Cable and Connector system gives compatible Zero Li-ion motors a much easier charging connection.

How the Automate Magnetic Charging System Works

The system uses two main parts: a 3 metre Automate Magnetic Extension Cable and a small Micro-B Magnetic Connector. The connector plugs into the charging port of a compatible Automate Zero Li-ion motor and can remain fitted to the motor. When the blind needs charging, the extension cable connects magnetically to the adaptor. Once charging is finished, remove the cable and leave the small connector in place for next time.

One Charging Cable Can Be Used Across Multiple Blinds

This is one of the biggest advantages of the system. If you have several compatible Automate Zero Li-ion motors, you do not necessarily need a complete charging cable for every blind. You can leave one magnetic connector on each motor and use the same 3 metre extension cable between them. For example, six compatible blinds can use one cable with six connectors.

Motorise My Blinds sells the extension cable and connector quantity as one configurable product, so you can choose the number of connectors you need without paying for unnecessary cables. View the Automate Magnetic Charging Cable & Connectors.

Important: The Charging Port Should Face Directly Down

Before adding the magnetic charging system to an existing blind, check the orientation of the motor’s charging port. For the magnetic connection to remain secure while the cable is hanging, the charging port should face directly downward.

If the charging port is positioned sideways at approximately 90 degrees, the weight of the 3 metre cable can pull against the magnetic connection and may cause it to disconnect while charging. With the charging port facing down, the cable hangs naturally beneath the motor instead of pulling sideways on the magnetic connector.

Some Existing Motors May Need to Be Repositioned

If your existing Zero Li-ion motor has its charging port facing sideways, you may need to reposition the motor head so the charging port points directly down. That is worth checking before ordering the magnetic accessories, because repositioning the motor can also affect the blind’s travel settings.

Repositioning the Motor May Mean Resetting the Limits

Rotating or repositioning the motor changes its position relative to the blind. After repositioning it, check that UP and DOWN still operate the blind in the correct direction and check both the upper and lower stopping positions. The limits may need to be reset.

We have a separate step-by-step guide covering pairing, direction and both travel limits. Read: How to Pair, Set Direction & Set Limits on Automate Blind Motors.

Which Automate Motors Are Compatible?

The Micro-B magnetic connector is for compatible Automate Zero Li-ion motors that use the Micro-B charging connection. Automate has produced different motor generations and charging connections, so check the motor head before ordering. If you are unsure, send Motorise My Blinds a clear photo of the motor head and charging port and we can help identify what you have.

What Should I Order?

For most installations, you need one Automate Magnetic Extension Cable plus one Micro-B Magnetic Connector for each compatible motor you want permanently fitted with a connector. One blind would generally use one cable and one connector; three blinds can use one cable and three connectors; six blinds can use one cable and six connectors.

If You Get Stuck

If repositioning or reprogramming the motor feels too overwhelming, Automate has a technician helpline you can call directly on 03 9118 8118. For product identification and compatibility questions, Motorise My Blinds can also help before you order.
