S60 Roller Blind Tube: Identification & Motor Options

The Acmeda S60 is a 60mm heavy-duty roller blind tube used where a smaller tube would not provide enough rigidity. If you have a wide blind, a long drop or a heavier fabric, identifying an S60 can be good news: the existing tube can be retained when it is in good condition and matched to a confirmed motor and S60 crown/drive configuration.
How to identify an S60 tube
S60 measures about 60mm across the outside of the bare aluminium tube. It also has a distinctive internal profile, so do not identify it from size alone. Remove the idler, photograph the tube end and compare the profile before ordering any motor or adaptor.
Why S60 is used on larger blinds
As a roller blind becomes wider, tube deflection becomes increasingly important. The larger diameter and heavy-duty construction of S60 give the system more stiffness across wide spans. It is commonly found on blinds in the 3.0–4.0 metre-plus range, although fabric weight, drop and installation details always affect what is appropriate.
Can an existing S60 blind be motorised?
Yes. When the S60 tube and hardware are suitable, the chain control can be removed and replaced by a tubular motor using the correct S60 crown and drive. There is no reason to replace a sound S60 tube simply because the blind was originally manual.
See the current confirmed S60 motor options rather than choosing from a generic 60mm motor list. The correct drive system and adequate torque both matter.
Rechargeable vs hardwired on a large blind
Rechargeable motors can be an excellent retrofit option where you want to avoid new mains wiring. Hardwired 240V motors may suit very wide blinds, high-use installations or projects where fixed power is already available. For 240V wiring, use a licensed electrician.
More torque is not a substitute for tube stiffness
A common mistake is to solve every large-blind problem by choosing a stronger motor. Torque determines lifting ability; tube diameter and construction determine how much the roller deflects. S60 is valuable because it addresses the structural side of the system as well as providing room for larger motor options.
