Automate Pulse Pro Matter Setup: Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings
Updated: 6 days ago
Matter allows the current Automate Pulse Pro hub to bridge compatible ARC blinds into Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings. The important order is to complete the Automate setup first, then add Pulse Pro to the chosen Matter ecosystem.
Matter does not replace the Pulse Pro. The hub still communicates with the ARC motors; Matter provides the connection from Pulse Pro to the wider smart-home platform.
What you need
A current Matter-compatible Automate Pulse Pro hub.
Compatible Automate ARC motors.
The Automate Shades app and a working Pulse Pro location.
Motor limits set and tested from a physical remote.
Pulse Pro connected by 2.4GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
A Matter-compatible smart speaker or hub for Apple, Google, Amazon or SmartThings.
The setup QR code printed on the underside of Pulse Pro.
Prepare Pulse Pro
Test each blind from its Automate remote.
Set the upper and lower motor limits before hub pairing.
Connect Pulse Pro to the Automate Shades app.
Add each ARC shade and place it in the correct Automate room.
Test individual shades, groups, scenes and timers in the Automate app.
Allow the hub and app to install available updates.
Record the hub QR code before placing it in a difficult location.
Add Pulse Pro to Amazon Alexa
Open the Alexa app and sign in.
From Devices, select the plus symbol and Add Device.
Choose Hub, then More and Matter Device.
Follow the prompts and scan the QR code on the bottom of Pulse Pro.
Set up each discovered shade and assign it to the correct Alexa room.
Test a simple open, close and percentage voice command.
Add Pulse Pro to Google Home
Open the Google Home app and sign in.
From Devices, select Add.
Choose Matter-enabled device.
Scan the QR code on the bottom of Pulse Pro.
Add the hub to Google Home, name it and choose its location.
Assign the discovered shades to rooms and test control.
Add Pulse Pro to Apple Home
Open the Apple Home app.
Select the plus symbol and Add Accessory.
Scan the QR code on the bottom of Pulse Pro.
Choose Add to Home.
Select the room, name the hub and complete the prompts.
Test each shade from Apple Home and with Siri.
Add Pulse Pro to SmartThings
Use the SmartThings app’s Matter-device process, scan the Pulse Pro QR code and add the discovered shades to the correct location and rooms. A compatible SmartThings Matter controller is required.
Rooms, groups and scenes do not automatically copy
Matter exposes supported devices, but it does not automatically import the Automate app’s room controls or scenes into every third-party platform. Create the required rooms, groups, scenes and routines again in Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings.
Useful commands and routines
Open or close a named blind.
Set a blind to a selected percentage.
Control every shade assigned to one room.
Close blinds with a Good Night routine.
Lower western blinds with a heat or glare routine.
Combine blinds with compatible lights or entertainment devices.
Pulse Pro appears but the shades do not
Confirm the shades already work in the Automate app.
Check the Pulse Pro firmware and Automate app version.
Wait for discovery to complete, then refresh the platform.
Remove duplicate or abandoned Matter onboarding attempts.
Keep the phone, Matter controller and Pulse Pro on the correct local network during setup.
Restart the platform app before resetting any motor.
Voice commands target the wrong blind
Use short, unique shade names and assign each device to the correct room. Avoid giving the room and a blind the exact same name. Rebuild third-party groups if several shades should move together.
What happens if the internet fails?
Physical ARC remotes continue to communicate directly with the motors. Pulse Pro timers continue operating when the hub is disconnected from the internet and Wi-Fi. If local Wi-Fi remains available but the internet service is down, supported local app functions and timers can continue, although third-party cloud voice services may not.
Do not remove the physical remotes
Matter is an additional control layer. Keep a compatible handheld or wall control for immediate operation, motor programming and troubleshooting.
If the shades work in Automate but not in the third-party platform, troubleshoot the Matter and platform connection. If they do not work in Automate, solve the Pulse Pro or ARC connection first.
